|What is Reiki?
|The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese words - Rei and Ki. Rei can be defined as the Higher Intelligence that guides the creation and functioning of the Universe.
Ki is the non-physical energy that animates all living things. Ki is flowing in everything that is alive including plants, animals and humans. The Chinese word for this life force energy is Chi.
When the Ki is high, a person will feel strong, confident and ready for anything. We receive Ki from the air we breathe, from food, sunshine and sleep. It is possible to increase our Ki by using breathing exercises and meditation. Ki is the life force. An important quality of Ki is that it responds to our thoughts and feelings. Our negative thoughts and feelings are the main cause of restriction in the flow of Ki in the body. If the negative thoughts and feelings are not eliminated quickly, blockages can occur and illness or dis-ease (the body not at ease) will occur.
The great value of Reiki is that it knows exactly where to go and how to respond to restrictions in the flow of Ki.
So, Reiki can be defined as a non-physical healing energy made up of life force energy that is guided by the Higher Intelligence or spiritually guided life force energy. This non-invasive, completely benign healing technique plays an important role as an accepted and valued practice.
How is it done?
The Reiki Practitioner allows the Universal Energy to flow through him/herself to the recipient by laying on of hands to help open up the energy centers within the body (called Chakras) and re-establish an unobstructed flow of energy allowing for a sense of peace and relaxation so healing can occur.
The recipient is fully clothed, and each session takes one hour.
